Change Can Be Overwhelming

Adolescence and young adulthood are filled with transitions that can often feel massive.

From navigating the pressures of academic performance, building relationships, social media, and bullying to the challenges of 'adulting,' many young people find themselves struggling with anxiety, depression, and a sense of isolation.

It needn’t be like this.

Increase your confidence in yourself

You can meet the challenges of adolescence and young adulthood with strength and confidence.

Where others - on social media or in real life - don't dictate your self-worth. And where 'adulting' becomes an exciting journey of discovery, not a source of anxiety.

Therapy can help adolescents and young people cope with the roller coaster of emotions accompanying this stage of life while providing them with the support and guidance essential to making healthy decisions.

  • Navigate the complex transition from adolescence to adulthood with ease and confidence.

  • Build and maintain positive relationships, both online and in real life.

  • Manage and understand your mental health, transforming the way you see yourself and your place in the world.

  • Get through the daily pressures of school and college without breaking.

Hi, I’m Karlie

I believe every young individual has the right to a life filled with confidence, resilience, and mental well-being.

But the challenges kids are experiencing today are increasingly complex.

From navigating the 24/7 social media landscape and new dynamics of identity and relationships to the pressures and expectations of 'adulting,'—I’m here to support you and your young adult through these eventful, character-shaping years.

As a therapist dedicated to adolescents and young adults, my approach integrates the principles of Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with a special emphasis on fostering positive relationships with oneself and others.

Our interactions and relationships often influence who we become as young adults..

By looking at these connections and how they shape us, we work together to navigate the complexities of growing up in today's world, ensuring personal development while shaping, growing, and preserving your sense of self in the middle of life's transitions.

Any questions about therapy for adolescents and young adults?

  • I accept Venmo, PayPal, and bank transfers as forms of payment. Payment is expected at the time that services are provided.

My fee is $200 per therapeutic hour (50 minutes.) For longer sessions, my fees are prorated accordingly.

Phone, text, and email communication between sessions are prorated accordingly.

I offer a limited number of sliding-scale appointments for people who would otherwise be unable to engage in therapy at my regular fee. Please contact me if you would like more information.

  • I don’t accept payments from health insurance providers.

Your health insurance plan may provide an “out-of-network provider” benefit, allowing you to receive reimbursement for the services I provide at the rate your insurance pays. You will receive a monthly invoice, which you can submit to your health insurance company for reimbursement.

  • Sessions are typically 50 minutes. However, depending on your needs, I offer longer session lengths, which we can discuss when scheduling your initial appointment.

  • At this time, all my appointments are online using a secure, HIPPA-compliant platform to ensure confidentiality. This makes it easy for you to attend appointments without having to worry about parking or getting stuck in traffic.

I see clients on weekdays between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.

  • Initially, our appointments will be every week. As you start to make progress, your appointments will be every two weeks to once a month. The duration of therapy can vary widely depending on your needs, the nature of the issues being addressed, and the goals of therapy. Some clients may find short-term therapy (e.g., 6-12 sessions) beneficial for specific issues, while others may engage in longer-term therapy to explore deeper emotional patterns or ongoing support. We can discuss this further during your initial session.

  • Our first meeting is an opportunity to discuss what brings you to therapy, your hopes and goals, any concerns, and a time to answer your questions about my approach. I encourage you to share on a level that feels comfortable for you. Therapy is an inherently vulnerable process; as trust is built, you will feel more comfortable. Finding the right therapist is one of the most crucial elements of therapy. During the first several sessions, you and I will both be evaluating our “fit” and our ability to engage in meaningful and productive work together.

  • Please provide 24 hours notice of cancellation for any appointment you cannot keep or wish to reschedule. The full session fee will be charged for no-shows, cancellations, or rescheduling with less than 24 hours’ notice.

  • Therapy for adolescents and young adults can address a wide range of issues that are often unique to this stage of life, including anxiety, depression, stress related to school or college, identity exploration, family conflicts, relationship challenges, self-esteem issues, and navigating transitions such as moving out or starting university. It also offers support for dealing with peer pressure, bullying, social media concerns, and questions about sexuality and gender identity.

  • Therapy provides a confidential space for young people to express themselves freely, explore their feelings, and understand their behaviors and thoughts. It helps them develop coping strategies for managing emotions and challenges, improves their communication skills, and supports them in building self-confidence and making healthy decisions. Therapists trained to work with this age group understand their developmental and social challenges and can tailor their approach accordingly.

  • Yes, this can be beneficial, especially for younger adolescents, but it's important to balance this with the young person's need for confidentiality and independence. Therapists might involve parents in some sessions to discuss communication strategies, provide updates on progress, and explore ways to support the adolescent or young adult at home, all while respecting the boundaries of the therapeutic relationship with the client.

  • Consider seeking therapy if you or your child are experiencing significant distress, changes in behavior or mood, difficulties with coping with daily life, withdrawal from social activities, academic problems, or if there are concerns about self-harm or suicidal thoughts. Early intervention can help address issues before they become more serious. It's also worthwhile to seek therapy as a space for growth and learning more about oneself, even in the absence of a crisis.

  • It's not uncommon for young people to be hesitant or resistant to the idea of therapy due to stigma, fear of being judged, or simply not understanding how it can help. Engaging them in open conversations about their concerns, emphasizing the confidentiality and supportive nature of therapy, and allowing them to be involved in the process of selecting a therapist can help. Some might be more open to trying therapy after learning more about how it works and hearing that their autonomy and privacy will be respected.
